Boris Karpichkov,
62 is a former major in the FSB and its predecessor the KGB. He defected to Britain in 1998 bringing two suitcases of secrets with him. Karpichov survived two attempts to poison him when he was making a visit to New Zealand

Bill Browder,
56 is a long-standing Putin critic and no stranger to death threats. Like Steele, he was allegedly marked down for execution with Sergei Skripal in 2018. The financier works with the Hermitage Fund, at one time the largest foreign portfolio investor in Russia. He was deported in 2005 and declared a threat to Russian security.

Christopher Steele,
56, is a former MI6 officer who is now running the private intelligence firm, Orbis Business Intelligence.

De Democraten doen een nieuwe poging om Washington DC te verheffen tot gelijkwaardige Staat binnen de USA. De inwoners van Washington DC betalen per hoofd van de bevolking meer belasting dan welke andere staat binnen de USA, maar ze mogen op dit moment niet vertegenwoordigd worden in het Congres met stemgerechtigde Afgevaardigden en Senatoren. De bevolkingsdichtheid van Washington DC is groter dan 2 andere Staten in de USA.

Het tegen-argument van de Republikeinen is, dat dit voorstel voor gelijktrekking een radicaal-links agendapunt is om de macht te grijpen. Het contra-argument van de Democraten is, dat het juist een machtsgreep is van de Republikeinen, om al die inwoners van DC een stemgerechtigde afvaardiging in het Congres te onthouden. Wel dezelfde plichten, maar niet dezelfde rechten, dat is onrecht ..

Om het Wets-voorstel er door te krijgen, zijn 60 stemmen nodig in de Senaat. De Democraten hebben er 50. Zij hebben 10 Republikeinse ja-stemmers nodig. Vooralsnog worden die 10 stemmen niet verwacht.

Biden wil mogelijk nog eens 3 biljoen dollar in economie steken - media

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) Adviseurs van de Amerikaanse president Joe Biden werken aan een voorstel voor een nieuwe pakket maatregelen ter waarde van 3 biljoen dollar om de Amerikaanse economie te ondersteunen. Dit schrijft de New York Times maandag op basis van documenten die de krant in handen kreeg.

Volgens de krant ligt er een infrastructuurplan van "enorme omvang" klaar, dat moet worden bekostigd door belastingverhogingen voor bedrijven en de rijken. Ook moet de uitstoot van broeikasgassen en economische ongelijkheid worden teruggedrongen.

Na maandenlange interne gesprekken, zullen adviseurs van Biden vermoedelijk deze week een voorstel bij de president neerleggen. Het plan is om de maatregelen in meerdere stappen voor te leggen aan het Congres.

In totaal zou er 3 biljoen dollar gemoeid zijn met de plannen, aldus de New York Times.

Eerder deze maand stemde de Amerikaanse Senaat in met een coronasteunpakket ter waarde van 1,9 biljoen dollar.

Het American Rescue Plan bevat onder meer een nieuwe ronde van directe cheques aan huishoudens, van 1.400 dollar per Amerikaans gezinslid dat hiervoor in aanmerking komt. In december ontvingen Amerikaanse huishoudens al 600 dollar per persoon.

Verder zijn honderden miljarden gereserveerd voor het veilig heropenen van scholen in de VS, de verdere uitrol van vaccinatieprogramma's en een verlenging van de bijzondere bijstand voor werklozen van 300 dollar per week tot en met september.

DEN BOSCH (ANP) - Nederland plukt naar verwachting ook de vruchten van het Amerikaanse coronasteunpakket van president Joe Biden. Volgens deskundigen van kredietverzekeraar Euler Hermes is het pakket ter waarde van 1900 miljard dollar eigenlijk "brandstof voor de totale wereldeconomie".

"Dit is echt een duw in de rug van de wereldeconomie. Het geld wordt bijna letterlijk over de VS uitgestrooid. De vraag naar producten en diensten krijgt een enorme boost. Dat gaat de hele wereld merken", zegt risicodirecteur Johan Geeroms van Euler Hermes Nederland.

De export van huishoudelijke apparaten, computers en auto’s profiteert waarschijnlijk het meest van het Amerikaanse steunpakket, zo becijferden de onderzoekers. Landen waar de export het sterkst zal aantrekken door de Amerikaanse steunmaatregelen zijn China, Mexico en Canada. Duitsland zou op de vijfde plaats staan.

"Nederland staat weliswaar lager, maar wel gelijk met een groot land als Brazilië. Daarnaast is het zo dat we indirect profiteren van de sterke export-impuls van Duitsland", geeft Geeroms aan. Voor de Nederlandse export leidt het steunpakket volgens de berekeningen tot 6 miljard dollar groei. In Duitsland krijgt de export een impuls van 56 miljard dollar.

Voormalig Amerikaanse minister van Financiën, Larry Summers spreekt van het "minst verantwoordelijke" macro-economische beleid van de afgelopen 40 jaar.

Summers gaf een negatieve economische voorspelling tijdens een optreden op Bloomberg Television's "Wall Street Week" op vrijdag. Summers heeft vooral kritiek geuit op het onlangs ondertekende COVID-19-hulppakket van $ 1,9 biljoen van $ 1,9 biljoen, omdat het de economie zou kunnen oververhitten.
