The United States National Basketball Association (NBA) is nearing a broadcasting deal with Amazon.com Inc., NBC and ESPN, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday. The agreement would bring it around $76 billion in media revenue over 11 years, according to people familiar with the matter.
NBC is expected to pay the NBA around $2.5 billion a year to broadcast 100 games per season, including on its streaming platform Peacock, the report claimed. Amazon would pay $1.8 billion a year for "regular-season and playoff games, the new NBA in-season tournament, and the 'play-in' games in which teams compete for the final playoff spots." Meanwhile, ESPN's owner Disney would retain its current rights to the NBA finals but air fewer games, with its payments to the NBA allegedly increasing from $1.5 billion a year to about $2.6 billion.
