GM ziet het niet zo zitten dat Saab wordt verkocht aan Chinezen en dat die GM techniek in handen krijgen. Daarnaast heeft Pang Da zelf genoeg problemen (geen geld).

GM twijfelt over goedkeuring overname Saab

De Amerikaanse autofabrikant General Motors (GM) is nog onzeker of het zijn toestemming wil geven aan de voorgenomen overname van het Zweedse automerk Saab door twee Chinese autobedrijven. Dat liet GM dit weekeinde weten.
,,We zouden niet kunnen instemmen met een verandering van eigendom van Saab die een negatieve impact heeft op de bestaande relaties van GM in China of op andere manieren de wereldwijde belangen van GM schaadt'', aldus GM. ,,We hebben nog veel onbeantwoorde vragen over de transactie.''

De Chinese bedrijven Youngman en Pang Da willen 100 miljoen euro neerleggen voor Saab. Saab werd begin 2010 van GM overgenomen door het Nederlandse Spyker Cars, dat nu Swedish Automobile heet. GM bezit nog steeds een belang in Saab en is een belangrijke toeleverancier van het bedrijf en moet daarom instemmen met de verkoop van Saab.

GM zou zich vooral zorgen maken dat bij een Chinese overname van Saab zijn technologie naar China gaat. Het autoconcern liet wel weten open te staan voor verdere onderhandelingen over de transactie. ,,Als onze zorgen geadresseerd worden, kan het mogelijk zijn dat wij als toeleverancier voor Saab doorgaan.''

Naast GM moeten ook de Chinese en Zweedse autoriteiten en de Europese Investeringsbank met de overname van Saab instemmen. China liet eerder deze maand weten ,,in principe'' positief te staan tegen de overname van Saab door Youngman en Pang Da.

Dat GM aan de noodrem trekt was afgelopen vrijdag al bekend. En dat nieuws is afgelopen weekend ook uitgebreid besproken. Sterker nog ik link ernaar in mijn openingspost.

Dus ze laten de boel falliet verklaren en zien van het geld af dat ze zouden krijgen bij de verkoop aan de chinezen,wat hebben ze dan aan hun now how techniek van deze auto als die niet meer geproduceert gaat worden.Ik denk dat de toestemminggevers niet onder de chinese vlag willen verder gaan en zich meer richten op de amerikaanse investeerders.En die hebben het geld nog niet bij elkaar,om saab van een debacle te behoeden.

Dus gewoon verkopen aan die chinezen anders wordt het niets,en begint het spel weer van voor of aan.

er staan er weer 13 te trappelen v.a. 0,38 ruim 200.000 in te slaan en 22 willen het wel voor ,42-,40 verkopen. dat worst weer saai, wegwezen.

GM’s China chief confirms comments on the Saab deal

Today a comment by Kevin Wale, who is president and managing director of GM’s China operation, appeared on Reuters. He basically confirms the statement we read on Friday. Here’s a quote from the Reuters article:

Wale reiterated a company spokesman’s comment that GM might block a deal by two Chinese companies to take over troubled Swedish carmaker Saab, in which GM still holds some preferred shares.

And further down…

Wale concurred on Monday, saying, “It doesn’t make sense for us to support any change that might adversely affect us. We use global architectures and those global architectures are used in a number of products we make at SGM.”

SGM, or Shanghai GM, also makes Cadillac models.

Reading those statements do they sound more like “there is a chance for this deal to go through” or “most likely we won’t approve it”? It’s up to you to judge that.

But on a personal note, I don’t believe that this is negotiation tactics by GM, this is clearly about business. As I mentioned in my comments on Friday I have a feel that there really is something in the contracts with SAIC that would make it difficult for GM to let the deal get through, even if they wanted. Quite clear that they don’t want another Chinese company (Youngman) to step into that for Shanghai GM very profitable market with the same IP. In my opinion the deal would have to change quite a bit to get approval from GM.

Can we blame GM for that? Not really. This is not just because GM wants to see Saab die as mentioned in some conspiracy theories, this is what almost every company would do in such a situation. I’m pretty sure Victor saw that coming and prepared for such a scenario.

GM on track to double China sales by 2015

(Reuters) - General Motors (GM.N) is on track to double its annual tally to 5 million vehicles in China by 2015 despite slowing growth in the world's largest auto market, its China chief said on Monday.

GM, which competes in China with Volkswagen AG (VOWG.DE) among other global brands, has been outperforming the market so far this year due in part to hot-selling Buick and Chevrolet cars made at Shanghai GM, its flagship China car venture.

"We still have our plan in place to double our volume by 2015, and we are still working toward that," Kevin Wale, president and managing director for GM's China operation, told Reuters in a telephone interview.

China's once booming auto market has downshifted to a 3.6 percent gain in the first nine months, after jumping 32 percent and 46 percent, respectively, in 2010 and 2009.

The cooling has been attributed to a raft of factors, from the end of tax incentives for small cars to local authorities' initiatives aimed at easing ever-worsening traffic congestion.

Wale, however, remains optimistic on the growth potential of the Chinese market.

"We will have some down years and we will have some up years, but we think the fundamentals are still very strong," he said.

"There is still going to be substantial growth in the China market on a trend basis and we still think it will grow between some 7 to 10 percent per year in the foreseeable future."

He expected passenger car sales to grow about 10 percent this year, with the overall market gaining 3-5 percent.

In October, GM, which operates auto manufacturing ventures in China with SAIC Motor Corp (600104.SS) and FAW Group, sold 220,412 vehicles in the country, up 10.4 percent from a year earlier. The company expects sales for the full year to grow as much as 10 percent.

To reach its 2015 China target, GM aims to introduce some 60 new and upgraded models in the country during the period -- about 12 of them being Buicks and 15 Chevrolets, Wale said in April.

GM started to export its Chevy new Sail, made at Shanghai GM, in January 2010, with shipment totaling 5,000 units, as of the end of October of that year, mostly to Chile.

Exports of Sail, along with some mini vehicles made at GM's venture in southern China, are expected to reach 50,000 units this year, mostly to South America and North Africa.

Wale said he did not have a specific target for exports but would continue to look for opportunities.

"We export only if we have a product. When we find that we have a unique product and there is an opportunity in distribution processes around the world, we take advantage of it."

Early in the month, Pang Da Automobile Trade Co. (601258.SS) and Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile Co signed an initial agreement to take over Saab, owned by Swedish Automobile (SWAN.AS).

The deal, valid through Nov 15, requires the approval of the Chinese government, the European Investment Bank, the Swedish government and GM, which has preference shares in Saab and is a major supplier of components.

A GM spokesman in Detroit told the New York Times over the weekend that GM might block the deal unless it would not affect GM's interest in China and elsewhere.

Als SAAB wordt verkocht ziet GM toch bijna niets omdat alles naar de schulden op gaat, dus het is wel begrijpelijk dat GM liever de boel failliet laten gaan dan dat de chinezen alle technieken van GM in huis halen.

GM sends Saab list of questions concerning Chinese acquisition

Saab says General Motors has sent a number of questions to Sweden concerning its proposed 100% acquisition by Chinese manufacturer Youngman and distributor Pang Da.

Former Saab owner GM has raised its queries as Saab announced a memorandum of understanding period from the Chinese was due to be evaluated on 15 November.

"They [GM] have sent a number of questions to Saab and we are working through those and are answering them," a Saab spokeswoman in Sweden told just-auto. "We don't see this as a setback - we are hopeful we can come to a way forward.

"The 15th [November] is when the MoU expires and we hope to have GM approval by the 15th. This is to be expected. GM has to protect their own interests and will act in their own interests. We will have a dialogue with them that comes to a mutually agreed point.

Last week GM told just-auto: "Like other suppliers to Saab, we do not have any information about the proposed transaction. Therefore, it's impossible for us to comment on the situation."

However, reports circulating indicate GM would not back a change in Saab ownership that could affect its business in China.

Saab's IF Metall union representing its blue collar staff succeeded last week in persuading the Vanersborg District Court to allow an oversight committee to be set up to scrutinise the transition period from its current status to any potential Chinese ownership.

The unions have a particular interest in Saab's financial health as they endured several months of late salary payments during the summer before the Swedish government stepped in to guarantee wages following the automaker's entry into voluntary reorganisation.

GM in Europe was not immediately available for comment.

Ik vind dat de koers afgelopen week "opvallend" hoog heeft gestaan, terwijl VM heeft geroepen dat SWAN niet meer was dan een leeg huls. Ik denk dat er meer achter zit. Het kan maar zo dat een vies spelletje wordt gespeeld; een party heeft heel goedkoop SWAN aandelen ingekocht. Je zult maar zien dat de deal met de chinezen niet door gaat en een ander partij toch geld gaat investeren in SWAN. dan ben je wel blij als je rond 30 cent hebt kunnen inkopen.

Ook productie Saab 9-4X gestaakt

Ondanks dat de fabriek in Trollhättan al een tijd stilligt, werd in Mexico nog steeds de Saab 9-4X geproduceerd. De productie daarvan is nu ook gestaakt.

In Mexico werd nog altijd de Saab 9-4X geproduceerd. Die auto is een direct zustermodel van de Cadillac SRX en werd sinds enige tijd in de GM-fabriek in Ramos Arizpe geproduceerd. De Zweedse radio meldt vandaag dat ook de productie van die laatste Saab tot stilstand is gekomen.
“De productiestop is een gevolg van de liquiditeitsproblemen van Saab. We kunnen geen kant-en-klare auto’s meer betalen,” vertelt Gunilla Gustavs, de Zweedse woordvoerster van het merk. Ze kan niet melden wanneer de productie van de SUV weer op gang komt.
In Nederland wordt met smart gewacht op de komst van de 9-4X, die met twee verschillende benzine V6’en te koop komt. De prijslijst is al in april bekendgemaakt en begint bij 74.995 euro.

Die productie ligt overigens al stil sinds juli/augustus. En er zijn in totaal slechts 500 van die auto's gebouwd (waarvan er maar 200 verkocht zijn). Er staan dus nog 300 gloednieuwe 9-4X'en onverkocht op voorraad bij Amerikaanse dealers.
