De reden is dat dit product schaarser wordt, en steeds meer mensen willen het in port.

Wie ze kocht aan een mooie prijs trekt zich niets aan van een stijging van -5% of +5% de volgende dag,
ze liggen in de kast en binnen 10 jaar worden ze wellicht eens gekeerd.

Vroeger altijd gedacht dat mijn naam nog wel eens in de aftiteling van een film van het bovenste schap zou voorkomen. Nooit gedacht dat het ook nog wel eens netjes zou kunnen zijn.

Corbus Pharmaceuticals (CRBP) waves a sea of hands in front of investors' eyes Thursday to obscure dismal results from another mid-stage study of its experimental anti-inflammatory drug anabasum.

In this four-month study of cystic fibrosis patients, the Corbus drug failed to improve lung function compared to a placebo. Overall respiratory symptoms, measured by a cystic fibrosis patient questionnaire, also showed no difference between anabasum and placebo.

These were the two most important, prospectively defined efficacy endpoints measured in the Corbus phase II study. Both came back zero. No benefit.

Instead of dealing with the clinical setback honestly, Corbus deflects with cherry-picked "positive" results from subsets of patients using endpoints not even written into the original design of the study.

Corbus claims a subset of patients treated with the highest dose of anabasum -- 20 mg taken twice daily -- reported a 75% reduction in "acute pulmonary exacerbations" compared to a placebo.

A 75% reduction sounds impressive but it wasn't. There was a one acute pulmonary exacerbation in patients treated with the 20 mg twice daily dose of anabasum compared to three of these events in placebo patients. In other words, Corbus got lucky with a tiny number of events.

Worse, this tiny numerical difference is probably due to imbalance in the baseline characteristics of patients in the study. Notably, significantly more patients in the 20 mg twice-daily arm were being treated with Vertex Pharma's (VRTX) cystic fibrosis drugs Orkambi or Kalydeco compared to the placebo patients. The Vertex drugs are proven to reduce pulmonary exacerbations.

Ben ook niet onder de indruk van deze resultaten. Weinig verschil in efficiëntie in vergelijking met Orkambi.
Veiligheidsprofiel schijnt wel beter te zijn.

Ik hoop dat de combinatie 2451 - 2222 van Galapgos beter uit de verf komt.

Vertex: ‘Calling Results Strong Does Not Make Them So’

By Ben Levisohn

Yesterday, we at Barron’s took a victory lap after Vertex Pharmaceuticals (VRTX) soared 20% after releasing data from its cystic fibrosis drug trial that was deemed a success. Our Johanna Bennett had predicted just such an outcome last week.

But was the data as good as it looked? While many sell-side analysts seem to think it was, but not H.C. Wainwright’s Andrew Fein and Emile Yu, who write that “calling results strong does not make them so.” They explain why:

In yesterday’s investor call following results from the EVOLVE and EXPAND studies of the tez/iva (661/770) combo, management highlighted their view that “the 4% is different than the 2.8%”. That is in reference to the 2.8% benefit in FEV1 produced by Orkambi in the pooled TRAFFIC and TRANSPORT studies, and the 4% benefit in FEV1 produced by tez/iva in the EVOLVE study. While we always tip our hat to statistical significance, we believe that the Orkambi experience to date has shown that FEV1 benefit in the very low single digits is questionably clinically meaningful, and commercially challenging. In our view, an average CF patient experiencing that level of FEV1 benefit is not aware of the benefit, which we believe is the real reason why Orkambi compliance, retention, and revenue, have all been lackluster. While Orkambi’s tolerability issues (bronchoconstriction/chest tightness) have certainly contributed to its commercial shortcoming, we believe that the fundamental reason for its underperformance has been its questionable clinical efficacy, not its tolerability profile. Then, we do not expect tez/iva to perform much better in the marketplace: we view its efficacy as interchangeable with Orkambi (no, 4% is really not different than 2.8%, to us, and likely to the patient, in our view), We expect tez/iva to replace rather than complement Orkambi penetration in bi-F508del. In a bullish scenario, we would assign limited degree of commercial upside (if any) due to just the novelty factor of a new launch and new branding, which we would then expect to flatten out quite quickly. Overall, despite management’s highlighting that the new results are strong, we beg to differ. Further, we do not believe that the results signal a fundamental change in the Vertex story (certainly not one worth +$5B, as reflected by the trading peak gain yesterday), and elect to remain on the sideline with a Neutral rating and $85 price target.

Shares of Vertex Pharmaceuticals have dropped 1.1% to $106.87 at 10:09 a.m. today, while the iShares Nasdaq Biotechnology ETF (IBB) has dipped 0.1% to $294.05.

schrijft aston.martin. Ik hoop het ook want ik heb er nog steeds wat (maar niet op de plank). Besef wel dat een dergelijk bericht ook Galapagos ten deel kan vallen al lijkt het er op dit moment niet zo op.
Tenminste volgens de kenners. Of optimistische kenners!

Aegon sterkste stijger

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) Op Wall Street zijn donderdag vier van de negen AEX-genoteerde fondsen ten opzichte van het slot in Amsterdam hoger gesloten. Aegon was met een winst van 1,4 procent de sterkste stijger. ArcelorMittal was met een verlies van 1,5 procent de sterkste daler.
