Failed civils contractor Roadbridge UK went down owing more than £22.5m to subcontractors and suppliers among its total debts of £60m.

The firm’s supply chain is unlikely to receive a penny for its invoices which are now worthless.

An update from administrator Grant Thornton also revealed that Bank of Ireland is owed €35m.

Hundreds of unsecured creditors are listed in the report revealing the extent of Roadbridge’s debts across the whole supply chain.

The firm’s main contracts were on HS2 where its largest deal was in a joint venture with Tarmac working for main contractor EKFB (Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial Construction and BAM Nuttall).

Roadbridge was also working on a smalller contractor as a subcontractor to the Align JV of Bouygues, Sir Robert McAlpine, and VolkerFitzpatrick.

Grant Thornton’s brief statement on the demise of Roadbridge UK blamed “ongoing trading losses and the impact of Covid-19”.

BAM appointed to fit interiors of St James Quarter’s W Edinburgh

BAM has been appointed by Nuveen Real Estate to fit out the interiors of 244 guest rooms at the 12 storey W Edinburgh, St James Quarter’s

W Edinburgh will offer 244 guestrooms, including 42 suites and one Extreme Wow Suite. The rooftop will feature a SUSHISAMBA restaurant as well as an outdoor terrace.

The plans also include a W Lounge, a signature restaurant, a W Sound Suite (the brand’s take on a writer’s room and music studio), FIT® and an AWAY® Spa.

Guests will be treated to the iconic Whatever/Whenever® service philosophy that promises whatever guests want, whenever they want it.
A striking exterior façade crafted from bronze-coloured steel

Designed by Jestico + Whiles, in conjunction with Allan Murray Architects, the W Edinburgh features a striking exterior façade crafted from a winding bronze-coloured steel ‘ribbon’.

Keppie Design has also been appointed as delivery architect to integrate its design solutions and assist with full 3D co-ordination of the design.

The 1.7 million sq ft development is due for completion in late 2023.

BAM secures major contract at St James Quarter’s W Edinburgh

NUVEEN Real Estate has appointed BAM Construction Scotland to deliver the interiors of W Edinburgh at the heart of the £1 billion St James Quarter.

BAM will be responsible for fitting the 244 guest rooms and public areas across the three buildings that make up the hotel.

During the pre-construction period, BAM revealed that its team has already closely involved its supply chain in the process of creating ‘key packages’ that identify and minimise risks, while enhancing the project’s buildability.

Keppie Design has been appointed delivery architect by BAM to integrate its design solutions and assist with full 3D co-ordination.

The hotel will offer 244 guest rooms, including 42 suites and one Extreme Wow Suite (the W brand’s interpretation of the Presidential Suite). The rooftop will feature a SUSHISAMBA restaurant with its blend of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian culture and cuisine as well as an outdoor terrace offering 360-degree views of the Scottish capital’s historic skyline.

Other areas include W Lounge (the W brand’s spin on the hotel lobby), a signature restaurant, a W Sound Suite (the brand’s take on a writer’s room and music studio), FIT® – a workout facility – and an AWAY® Spa.

The 1.7 million sq ft city centre development being delivered by Nuveen Real Estate features over 80 retail brands, accompanied by a mix of restaurants and bars, a boutique Everyman Cinema, a 75-bed Roomzzz Aparthotel, 152 New Eidyn apartments being built by Native Land, and a 1,600-capacity car park.

Designed by Jestico + Whiles, in conjunction with lead scheme architects, Allan Murray Architects, the W Edinburgh is said to feature a ‘striking’ exterior façade, evoking the ‘festival spirit’ of the city. Crafted from a winding bronze-coloured steel ‘ribbon’, the design has been likened to spirals of paper, a reference to the many printing presses which used to pepper the surrounding area

W Edinburgh is due for completion in late 2023.

Ach, misschien zijn we toch te positief geweest.

Inmiddels daalt het idee in dat de huizenbouw niet het feestje gaat worden waarop we allemaal gehoopt hadden.

Daarnaast is de situatie in de wereld nu ook niet bepaald om over naar huis te schrijven met als resultaat torenhoge inflatie en een diepe crisis die op de loer ligt.

Kortom, ‘Het kan verkeren’ zoals Brederode ooit zei (…).
