Transport Minister Danny Kennedy MLA has announced the appointment of consortium BAM/McCann as construction contractors for the A31 Magherafelt Bypass

The six kilometre scheme represents an investment of £35million and will entail the construction of a single carriageway (with sections of 2+1 overtaking lanes) through a largely green field site between the A31 Moneymore Road just south of Magherafelt to the A6 Castledawson roundabout.

As part of the new road, three overbridges and three new roundabouts will be constructed where it bisects existing roads.

Announcing the contract award, Minister Kennedy highlighted the importance of the scheme and said: “The A31 is a strategically important route which links the West Tyrone and Mid Ulster areas to the M2, Belfast and the north east. Magherafelt town suffers from significant traffic congestion, particularly during peak periods with parts of the existing road network within the town centre carrying around 25,000 vehicles per day. This very significant investment will help improve road safety, reduce congestion and improve journey times.

“I congratulate the BAM/McCann consortium on its successful bid for this scheme. I am confident that the construction contract for this scheme will help to secure jobs in the local construction industry and in turn will contribute towards the continued economic development of Northern Ireland.”

Work is expected to start before the end of this financial year. Construction is programmed across a period of 20 months, with completion expected in late 2016.

1. The preferred route for the A31 Magherafelt Bypass was announced in January 2008. The Statutory Orders for the scheme were published in June 2008. Following a public inquiry held in March/April 2009, the Direction Order became operative in October 2010. Funding for the scheme was announced in July 2013 and the Vesting Order subsequently became operative in May 2014.

2. The bypass will commence with a new roundabout at the A31 Moneymore/Coolshinny Road junction just south of Magherafelt town and will pass to the east of the town to connect directly with the A6 Castledawson roundabout. New roundabouts will be provided where the new road bisects the Ballyronan and Aughrim roads; all other side roads will be bridged over. Those sections of new carriageway between the Moneymore Road and the Ballyronan roads and between the Aughrim Road and Castledawson roundabout will be constructed as 2+1 carriageways to facilitate overtaking and further improve on journey times.

3. Upon the opening of the bypass to traffic, TransportNI will monitor traffic movement within the town to seek to optimise traffic progression and the sharing of town centre space.

gelijk heb je wel...slot gisteren ging ook in naveiling 2 ct omhoog.
misschien vandaag ook met ogenschouw naar nieuwe maand.

Het enorme volume de afgelopen dagen is nu enigzins verklaard, ook al was die 2% afbouw "maar" ongeveer 5,4 miljoen stukken.

Gezien de koers, was er ook een nog grotere opkoper!

Ik blijf zitten.
