De Europese Unie ging flink uit de bocht met haar CO2-regulering die van start ging op 17 april 2019. Vanaf 2030 moeten Europese autobouwers voor hun wagens een gemiddelde uitstoot van amper 59 gram CO2 per kilometer kunnen voorleggen. Dat komt overeen met een brandstofverbruik van 2,2 liter diesel per 100 kilometer. Dat is gewoon onmogelijk.

In 2006 stootten nieuwe auto’s geregistreerd in de EU 161 g/km uit. Dankzij de inspanningen van de autobouwers daalde dat cijfer tot 118 g/km. Het gemiddelde ging echter weer de hoogte in door het stijgende marktaandeel van benzinewagens, die meer CO2 uitstoten dan diesels. Tegen 2018 lag de gemiddelde uitstoot van nieuwe auto’s licht boven 120 g/km. Dat is ongeveer twee keer de uitstoot die op lange termijn zal worden toegelaten

DINGOLFING (AFN/DPA) - Automaker BMW investeert 400 miljoen euro in zijn grootste fabriek in het Duitse Dingolfing. Het geld wordt gebruikt voor aanpassingen die nodig zijn om op de locatie op termijn de volledig elektrische aangedreven SUV iNext te maken. De productie van de sportieve terreinwagen moet daar in 2021 beginnen.

De iNext moet in Dingolfing van dezelfde band gaan rollen als waar nu hybride voertuigen en auto's met verbrandingsmotoren worden geproduceerd. Door in te zetten op flexibele productiestructuren is BMW naar eigen zeggen optimaal uitgerust om aan de huidige marktvereisten te voldoen.

Dingolfing in Beieren is de grootste BMW-fabriek in Europa. De circa 18.000 medewerkers zorgen er dagelijks voor dat 1500 auto's van de band rollen.

Lexus Celebrates 30 Years of Lexus Hybrid Range

Ever since its entry into the luxury car market in 1989, Lexus has repeatedly broken the convention with pioneering new ideas. Years of research and development culminated in the RX 400h, the first self-charging hybrid Lexus and world’s first luxury hybrid vehicle, launched in 2005. On the outside it looked little different from the familiar RX 300 SUV, but under the skin things were very different. Yes, there was a 3.3-litre petrol V6 engine under the bonnet, but this was just one element in the radical, all-new self-charging hybrid electric system.

The second generation of Lexus Hybrid Drive raised the game significantly. Such was the technology’s status within the company, it was deployed in its new flagship sedan, the LS 600h, in 2007. As the first hybrid system to feature a V8 engine, a 5.0-litre unit, the most technically advanced Lexus had yet built, it delivered the kind of power and performance typically associated with a V12. The system delivered 445 DIN hp and 520 Nm of torque, giving acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds. A sportier aspect of hybrid power was also witnessed in the GS 450h sports sedan. A two-stage motor speed reduction planetary gear was used in both the GS and LS models, but for the LS 600h the hybrid transmission was upgraded. The nickel-metal hydride battery produced 280 V, but a boost converter could ramp this up to 650 V.

The third generation of Lexus Hybrid Drive made advances both in efficiency and responsiveness. The revised system was first seen in the IS 300h, the first IS to feature hybrid power, which entered the market in 2013. Central to the improved performance was a new 2.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine, equipped with D-4S direct fuel injection, Dual VVT-i intelligent variable valve-timing and a high-efficiency exhaust gas recirculation system. Combined with the hybrid transaxle, this duly gave class-leading, sub-100 g/km CO2 emissions and fuel economy from 4.3 l/100 km. With further refinements, this system was also adopted for the Lexus NX, the company’s first mid-size crossover, and the RC 300h coupe, both of which joined the range in 2014.

Featured in the new ES 300h sedan and UX 250h compact crossover launched in early 2019, it combines the benefits of an all-new, ultra-efficient Atkinson cycle engine (2.5l in ES, 2.0l in UX) with a new electric motor that’s lighter, more compact and more power dense.

The hybrid concept is an ingenious marriage of an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. Their performance – in unison or individually is governed automatically and seamlessly by an intelligent system that draws power from the appropriate source to maximize efficiency, or performance. Electric power is generated by the engine while the car is being driven, and is also converted from the kinetic energy produced when braking or slowing down. Power is stored in a high-voltage battery that needs no plug-in recharging.

Within 15 years Lexus has made hybrid central to its brand, extending its reach from a single model in 2005 to a range of 10 vehicles in its European line-up today, covering many different body styles and performance levels. Worldwide, cumulative hybrid sales have passed 1.6 million units, while in Western Europe hybrids now account for 99 per cent of all the new Lexus cars sold in the region.

Dit kost het onderhoud van een Bugatti Veyron

Een Bugatti is een echte supersportwagen met veel dure onderdelen. Maar even de olie vervangen kan toch nooit echt duur zijn? Mis: alleen een oliebeurtje kost bij Bugatti al 25.000 dollar, omgerekend een kleine 23.000 euro.

Bugatti beveelt overigens aan om alle vloeistoffen van de 1001 pk sterke Veyron jaarlijks te verversen. Dan komt er nog eens 4000 euro bij. Iets wat niet ieder jaar vervangen hoeft te worden als je weinig rijdt, zijn de banden. Maar goed ook, gezien de prijs. Want vier nieuwe banden kosten samen om en nabij de 35.000 euro.

Helaas adviseert Bugatti wel om ze iedere 4000 kilometer te vervangen. Ook wanneer er sneller is gereden dan 400 km/u moet er nieuw rubber onder. Helemaal bizar wordt het als het gaat om de velgen. Bugatti adviseert namelijk om deze iedere 12.000 kilometer te vervangen. Kosten? 35.000 euro.

En dan maar hopen dat er niets stuk gaat. Want het vervangen van een van de twee luchtkoelers kost 11.000 euro, waarvan 9000 voor het onderdeel zelf en 2000 aan arbeidsloon. Een turbo vervangen kost ruim tien mille en als je een probleem hebt met je nokkenassen ben je per nokkenas die wordt vervangen 20.000 euro armer.

Dat laatste is vooral zo duur omdat er veel arbeidsuren bij komen kijken. Het is bijvoorbeeld te hopen voor Bugatti-rijders dat ze nooit een lek ontdekken aan hun brandstoftank, want een nieuwe tank kost maar liefst 22.000 euro. Niet zo vreemd dus dat sommige eigenaren ervoor kiezen om zelf de olie te vervangen. Daarmee bespaar je toch weer een dik aangeklede VW Polo aan onderhoudskosten.

Bentley Starts Work On State-Of-The-Art Engineering Test Centre

Bentley Motors announced that work has commenced on a state-of-the-art engineering test facility at the company’s expanding headquarters in Crewe in England. The new centre is the latest phase in on-going development at the Pyms Lane site where all Bentley cars are hand-built. With completion due next autumn, the new building will cover more than 4,600 square metres over two storeys. Included in this figure will be 773 square metres of office space and 1550 square metres designed for the installation of a single climate-controlled chassis dynamometer, operating across a range of temperatures from -10°C to +40°C. There will also be a dedicated laboratory to run Real Driving Emissions using the latest state of the art portable emissions measurement systems. Bentley’s Technical Conformity department will be based in the test centre, with over 100 people working in the building.

The centre will allow Bentley to meet increased consumer demand for its current range of ultra-luxury vehicles, including the all-new, performance-orientated Flying Spur, the Continental GT and the new Bentayga Hybrid SUV, which marks Bentley’s first step towards electrification.

It will also play a key role in Bentley’s journey to become the world’s most sustainable luxury automotive manufacturer, giving the business capacity to grow as it diversifies into hybrid and electric models. The British marque has already confirmed that it will offer hybrid or electric variants of all of its models by 2023.

ABT e-Line and Schaeffler Collaboration to Electrify Light Commercial Vehicles

The Schaeffler Group and ABT e-Line GmbH have established a strategic collaboration for the electrification of light commercial vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons. ABT e-Line is a 100-percent subsidiary of ABT Holding that, as a premium partner to Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, has been commissioned to fully electrify light commercial vehicles including the T6 and Caddy models; it also bears customer responsibility for the electric powertrain, including the warranty. The Schaeffler Group will contribute its technological and provided the subsequent cartel clearance is obtained management expertise to the partnership and will develop and supply technological solutions for the electric powertrain. In the initial phase, Schaeffler will be focusing together with VW and ABT on project management, from concept through to homologation and on system supplier management. What is more, Schaeffler possesses a wealth of relevant expertise in the fields of purchasing, manufacturing, and quality assurance, all of which it will be contributing to this collaboration. Schaeffler Engineering already develops electronic control systems for ABT e-Line for use in the conversion of light commercial vehicles from VW.

The objective of the collaboration between the Schaeffler Group and ABT e-Line is to develop more advanced electric powertrains and to integrate and incorporate them into vehicles, focusing on light commercial and special vehicles. A further objective is to develop flexible mechatronic chassis solutions. In the medium term, the Schaeffler Group sees potential for further orders and for small and medium-sized production volumes in the commercial and special vehicle sectors.

SEAT and Redexis to Promote Mobility with Natural Gas

SEAT and Redexis are going to collaborate to boost sustainable mobility by promoting Compressed Natural Gas. Both companies will develop the creation of natural gas refuelling facilities and drive sustainable mobility with this alternative fuel. Through this agreement, SEAT is going to share information on the demand for this type of vehicles in order to boost the installation of refuelling points that are accessible to the public in areas considered of major importance. Moreover, Redexis expects to have more than 100 gas filling stations nationwide in the next two years. Natural gas currently contributes to improving air quality in cities, as it is an alternative that features reduced emissions and plays an active role in reaching sustainability goals.

According to registration data in Spain provided by Gasnam, and taking into account the current rate of growth, the potential for natural gas-powered vehicles in Spain could exceed one million cars by 2030. In the framework of this agreement, Redexis will develop the necessary CNG refuelling facilities to meet this demand for road mobility and will incorporate SEAT vehicles that run on natural gas into its fleet, as well as into the fleets of its own partner companies.

SEAT and Redexis aim to replicate and increase the growth model of natural gas which has occurred in Madrid and Barcelona in the rest of Spain by offering the necessary network so that any user can drive all over the country by using natural gas as an inexpensive and ecological fuel.

Aston Martin: aandeelhouders staan achter ons

LONDEN (AFN) - De belangrijkste aandeelhouders van Aston Martin zijn in een moeilijk jaar achter het bedrijf blijven staan en er zijn geen aanwijzingen dat dit gaat veranderen. Dat zei topman Andy Palmer van de Britse maker van sportwagens als reactie op berichten dat de Canadese miljardair Lawrence Stroll zou willen instappen bij het bedrijf.

Over die geruchten wilde Palmer niets zeggen. De topman gaf wel aan dat de automaker zijn schuldenlast moet terugbrengen, maar dat hij daarover niets te melden had.

Stroll zou een groep beleggers achter zich hebben gekregen. De Canadees die rijk werd in de modewereld staat ook bekend om zijn voorliefde voor snelle auto's. Zijn zoon Lance is een Formule 1-coureur bij het team Racing Point F1. Vader Stroll nam dat team over toen het toenmalige Force India failliet ging en later dat jaar werd zoon Lance als coureur vastgelegd.

Maserati Celebrates the 60th anniversary of 5000 GT 2+2 Coupé

Sixty years ago, the 5000 GT, a 2+2 coupé, was presented at the Turin Motor Show and was the undisputed star of the event. Maserati now celebrates the anniversary of this extraordinary car, built to the specific request of the Shah of Persia, Reza Pahlavi. Just 34 cars of this model were built at the Viale Ciro Menotti plant in Modena, with bodywork added by Italy's top coachbuilders of the period. Reza Pahlavi, the then Shah of Persia, and a great enthusiast of high-performance sports cars, test-drove a 3500 GT towards the end of 1958 and was delighted with it. However, he requested an increase in performance, and Giulio Alfieri, Maserati technical director at the time, realised that the car would have to be completely redesigned to satisfy this prestige customer's demands. The resulting AM103 project, continued through during 1959, and was in effect a new car and not merely a customisation: the heart of the design was the V8 engine of the 450S (the famous Maserati racing barchetta), with its bore increased to upgrade its displacement to almost five litres. The 5000 GT, a prestigious 2+2 coupé, was born.

The car, of which the first bodywork was built by Carrozzeria Touring, was launched at the 1959 Turin Motor Show, and received the nickname "Shah of Persia” in honour of this unique customer. Only three of that special version were ever produced. The next year, in 1960, the 5000 GT was exhibited on the stand at the Geneva International Motor Show, with a few revisions to the engine.

The most interesting fact of the Maserati 5000 GT was that it was built with bodywork by almost all the leading Italian coachbuilders of the time: from Allemano, Pininfarina, Monterosa, Ghia, Bertone and Frua, not to mention Michelotti for Vignale.

The 5000 GT was a VIP's car, in terms of both exclusivity and performance. Due to its extremely distinctive character and high cost, the total number of cars built was limited to just 34.

'Groeispurt voor autodeeldienst Daimler en BMW'

BERLIJN (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - De Duitse automakers Daimler en BMW hebben vertrouwen in de omzetontwikkeling van hun gebundelde autodeel- en mobiliteitsdienst FreeNow. De bedrijven verwachten dit jaar en volgend jaar een verdubbeling van de omzet.

FreeNow rekent voor dit jaar op een zogeheten brutohandelsvolume, een weerspiegeling van de inkomsten, van 2,4 miljard euro. FreeNow-baas Marc Berg beseft dat de doelstellingen ambitieus zijn, maar stelt daarbij dat het bedrijf, dat voorheen MyTaxi heette, in circa de helft van de 130 steden in Europa en Latijns-Amerika waar het momenteel actief is, al winstgevend is.

Mobiliteitsbedrijven staan steeds meer onder druk om aan te tonen dat ze winst kunnen maken. Dat blijkt onder meer uit de matige aandelenprestaties van Uber Technologies, bekend van de taxi-app en branchegenoot Lyft sinds hun beursdebuut.

Het delen van kosten van schaalvergroting was voor Daimler en BMW eerder dit jaar reden de krachten te bundelen. De Duitse makers van luxewagens zeiden toe meer dan 1 miljard euro te investeren in de joint venture, die ook diensten als opladen van e-auto's en parkeren omvat.

(ABM FN-Dow Jones)Fiat Chrysler en Peugeot hebben vandaag hun fusie definitief gemaakt. Dit maakten de bedrijven dinsdag voorbeurs bekend.

De synergievoordelen worden geschat op 3,7 miljard euro per jaar. Voor het realiseren van deze voordelen worden eenmalige kosten van 2,8 miljard euro verwacht. De prognose is dat na vier jaar 80 procent van de synergievoordelen gerealiseerd zullen zijn.

De aandeelhouders van elk bedrijf krijgen 50 procent van de aandelen in de nieuw gevormde onderneming.

Door de combinatie ontstaat een bedrijf dat goed is voor 8,7 miljoen autoverkopen per jaar en een omzet van 170 miljard euro.

Onderzoek naar mogelijke nepverkopen bij BMW

NEW YORK (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Autoconcern BMW wordt door de Amerikaanse beurswaakhond SEC onder de loep genomen in verband met de wijze waarop bepaalde verkopen van auto's zijn gerapporteerd. Dat heeft het Duitse concern bevestigd na berichtgeving door The Wall Street Journal. BMW stelt volledig mee te werken aan het onderzoek.

Eerder kreeg branchegenoot Fiat Chrysler ook al een dergelijk onderzoek voor de kiezen. Dat resulteerde in september in een boete van 40 miljoen dollar omdat er sprake zou zijn geweest van frauduleuze praktijken. Volgens de toezichthouder misleidde de Italiaans-Amerikaanse autofabrikant jarenlang beleggers door verkoopcijfers op te blazen. Dat gebeurde door autodealers te betalen voor het in de boeken zetten van nepverkopen.

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) De Amerikaanse beurswaakhond Securities and Exchange Commission is een onderzoek gestart naar de Duitse fabrikant van luxe auto's BMW. Dat zei een woordvoerder van het bedrijf dinsdag.

De SEC onderzoekt of de autofabrikant uit München zich heeft ingelaten met een praktijk die in de VS bekendstaat als 'sales punching', volgens personen die bekend zijn met de zaak.

'Sales punching' is het opkloppen van verkoopcijfers door een bedrijf, door dealerbedrijven auto's te laten registreren als verkocht, terwijl ze daadwerkelijk nog te koop staan bij de dealer.

"De SEC heeft contact met ons opgenomen en we zullen volledig meewerken met hun onderzoek", zei een woordvoerder tegen de The Wall Street Journal, zonder nader te willen uitweiden.

De SEC kon niet direct worden bereikt voor commentaar.

In september betaalde Fiat Chrysler al 40 miljoen dollar om aantijgingen van de SEC te schikken dat het bedrijf jarenlang dealers had betaald om de maandelijkse verkoopcijfers op te kloppen. De grote Amerikaanse autofabrikanten zijn inmiddels gestopt met maandelijkse verkoopcijfers.

BMW verkocht in de eerste negen maanden van het jaar 322.862 auto's in de VS, een groei van 1,7 procent op jaarbasis. Het zijn met name BMW's en Mini's. De handelsoorlog van president Donald Trump met China heeft pijn gedaan bij de export van de BMW SUV die in South Carolina wordt gemaakt. Een deel van de productie werd door BMW verschoven naar China.

ASI Certifies BMW Landshut Plant

Aluminium Stewardship Initiative has announced that BMW Group’s plant in Landshut in Germany has been successfully certified against ASI’s Performance Standard for responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium with a focus on material stewardship. The facility produces motor components like cylinder heads or crankcases, as well as structural components for the vehicle body such as side members and tailgate frames.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. ASI Performance Standard certifications focusing on ‘material stewardship’ address issues such as product design, life cycle assessments, management of process scrap and collection and recycling of products at end-of-life. The independent, third-party audit of the BMW Group plant was carried out by Bureau Veritas.

BMW Delivers 500,000th Electrified Vehicle

BMW Group has reached another electromobility milestone and already delivered half a million electrified cars to customers worldwide. Sebastian Mackensen, BMW Group Senior Vice President Market Germany, handed over the keys to a very special BMW 330e to its future owner at BMW Welt last week. Next year, the BMW X3 will become the first BMW Group vehicle available with four different drive train variants: efficient diesel, petrol, plug-in hybrid and pure electric. The biggest market for the pure electric BMW iX3 is China, where it will also be produced for the global market. The BMW iX3* will be the first to benefit from the ground-breaking fifth generation of our highly efficient BMW electric drive trains, which provide a new balance between range and battery size. The key lies in making the drive train substantially more efficient.

BMW iNEXT, which will also be available from 2021, will combine electromobility with highly automated driving. The fully electric BMW iNEXT will be produced on the same assembly line in Dingolfing as vehicles with combustion engines and plug-in hybrids. This will be followed in 2021 by the BMW i4, a pure electric Gran Coupé in the premium mid-size segment with strong emotional appeal. The BMW i4 will be produced at the main plant in Munich.

Thanks to its role as a visionary technology flagship and continuing sales success since its launch in 2013, the BMW i3 has acquired the status of an icon. The BMW Group will continue to further develop this vehicle and currently plans to extend production until 2024. Since late this year, the BMW Group’s electrified model line-up has also been joined by a further pure electric vehicle, the MINI Electric. The more than 90,000 registered prospects indicate the high level of customer interest in the first pure electric MINI.

LONDEN (AFN) - De belangrijkste aandeelhouders van Aston Martin zijn in een moeilijk jaar achter het bedrijf blijven staan en er zijn geen aanwijzingen dat dit gaat veranderen. Over die geruchten wilde Palmer niets zeggen. De topman gaf wel aan dat de automaker zijn schuldenlast moet terugbrengen, maar dat hij daarover niets te melden had.

Stroll zou een groep beleggers achter zich hebben gekregen. De Canadees die rijk werd in de modewereld staat ook bekend om zijn voorliefde voor snelle auto's. Zijn zoon Lance is een Formule 1-coureur bij het team Racing Point F1. Vader Stroll nam dat team over toen het toenmalige Force India failliet ging en later dat jaar werd zoon Lance als coureur vastgelegd.

Wie heeft er een mening over het moment voor Mercedes om Aston Martin in te lijven. Ze hebben 5 % van de aandelen. VW heeft immers Bentley, BMW Rolls-Royce.

Een overname voegt volgens mij weinig toe voor Mercedes. Mercedes heeft al zijn middelen nodig om de transitie naar de electrificering door te maken. Bovendien isMercedes al een "premium brand" dus waarom een premium brand erbij kopen? Dus tenzij Aston Martin belangrijke en unieke kennis bezit waar Mercedes gebruik van wil maken, lijkt een aankoop van Aston niet logisch.
