Shell Recharge Providing 10,000+ EV Chargers in UK

Leader in smart EV charging solutions and previously known as NewMotion, Shell Recharge Solutions has achieved a major milestone within its public charging network in the UK by now having 10,000 charging connections accessible through its UK network. Over the past year, the number of total public charge points in the UK has increased by 37% to over 29,000, meaning that the Shell Recharge roaming network now provides access to nearly a third of all public charge points. This increased interoperability is essential for open accessibility of charging infrastructure.

The public roaming network available via Shell Recharge recently added 526 charge points operated by GeniePoint and now offers access to 1,500 rapid chargers. Across Europe, the network now offers access to almost 300,000 charge points. By creating a more connected charging network for drivers, drivers can more simply access a larger charging infrastructure and enjoy a better EV driving experience.

In addition, charge points installed and operated by ubitricity, a company acquired by Shell in 2021 counts over 4,500 on-street charge points. Shell aims to operate over 500,000 charge points globally by 2025, including Shell Recharge ultra-fast charge points on Shell forecourts.

AJR Trucking & MDB Transportation Order Kenworth EVs

Kenworth Truck Company announced that Mr Jack Khudikyan, owner of AJR Trucking and MDB Transportation, has ordered 15 Kenworth T680E and 10 Kenworth K270E battery electric vehicles from Inland Kenworth Montebello. It marks the largest Kenworth battery electric vehicle order placed to date. According to Mr Khudikyan, this order is a major step forward for both companies to significantly reduce its emissions. In 2016, AJR Trucking and MDB Transportation began adding compressed natural gas powered Kenworth T680s to reduce carbon emissions. Combined, the two companies operate more than 80 natural gas-powered trucks and continue to phase out its diesel trucks as operations allow.

AJR Trucking will use the K270Es to provide regional postal services in the greater Los Angeles area. The T680Es will operate in MDB Transportation’s drayage operations at the Port of Los Angeles. To offset the cost of the Kenworth T680E and K270E battery electric vehicles, the companies qualified and received voucher incentives through the California Air Resources Board Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project.

AJR Trucking is a leading United States Postal Service contract carrier based in Los Angeles, and MDB Transportation provides transportation services including dedicated, port and rail, LTL and full truckload.

Nissan to Build 2-Electric Models at Mississippi Assembly Plant

Nissan has shared details on how its Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant will become a center for US EV production. The company is transforming Nissan Canton with the latest in EV manufacturing technology to support production of two all-new, all-electric vehicles. The investment for EV production will total USD 500 million, preserving and upskilling nearly 2,000 jobs, with production expected to begin in 2025. Nissan’s investment is supported by strong partnerships with state, county and local governments.

This’s announcement supports Nissan Ambition 2030, calling for 23 electrified models for the Nissan and Infiniti brands globally, including 15 all-electric vehicles, by 2030. Ambition 2030 will deliver exciting, electrified vehicles and technological innovations. Taking account of critical environmental, societal and customer needs, Ambition 2030 underpins the company’s aim to empower mobility and beyond for a cleaner, safer and more inclusive world.

Nissan has set the goal to achieve carbon neutrality across the company’s global operations and the life cycle of its products by 20501 by pursuing further innovations in electrification and manufacturing technology. As part of this effort, Nissan is targeting 40 percent of its US vehicle sales volume to be fully electric by 2030, with even more to be electrified.

Audi & FAW to Start Construction of EV Plant in China

Audi is consistently focusing on the electrification of its model range in China as well. With the Audi FAW NEV Company Ltd, Audi is setting the course for expanding the local e-product portfolio, building a new plant for fully electric Audi models using the Premium Platform Electric. In recent months, the company jointly founded by Audi and its partner FAW has achieved a new milestone: After intense preparations and successful approval by the Chinese authorities, construction is set to begin on the new plant in Changchun. The site has a production capacity of more than 150,000 electric cars annually – moreover, production will be CO2 neutral and fully connected.

On an area of approximately 150 hectares, a highly modern plant for fully electric Audi models will be constructed by the end of 2024. A completely new IT architecture will be put into place to network all site processes. The cross-site environmental program Mission:Zero sets the parameters for sustainability, ensuring production at the Changchun site will be CO2 neutral and fully connected. Production areas at the plant will include a press shop, body construction, paint shop, and final assembly line in addition to an in-house battery assembly. The first buildings will be erected in Changchun when the frost period ends.

The new plant in Changchun will be the first production site in China where only all-electric Audi models roll of the line. With an annual capacity of more than 150,000 cars, the factory will play a central role in the continued electrification of Audi’s product portfolio for the Chinese market. Three models are initially slated for production at the site on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) codeveloped with Porsche. The first cars to roll off the line will be an electric SUV and an e-limousine.

The Audi FAW NEV Company is the first cooperation company with a majority interest held by Audi in China. CEO Helmut Stettner will also assume management of the new plant.

BYD ADL Delivers 29 Enviro400EV Double Deckers to Abellio London

Alexander Dennis Limited & BYD UK announced that their electric vehicle partnership, the UK’s leading electric bus producer, has supplied 29 BYD ADL Enviro400EV to Abellio London for use on Transport for London route 63 between King’s Cross and Honor Oak. The zero emission double deckers have innovative features, aimed at making them an even more attractive, green alternative to the car as London recovers from the pandemic. The new buses on route 63 have a more open feel thanks to a skylight on the upper deck and handles on the backs of seats rather than vertical poles for an unobstructed view. With high back seats throughout, journeys will be more comfortable. USB chargers and mobile phone holders in the seats mean passengers can work or relax more easily, while also taking the time to watch the sights of London go by. A wood-effect floor adds to the cutting-edge design.

New covers for the priority seats, with a contrasting colour scheme, help differentiate them from other seats for passengers who are less able to stand. The vehicles also have a larger wheelchair and buggy area, improving accessibility and helping parents getting around town. CCTV cameras have also been upgraded to provide higher-definition footage, acting as a greater deterrent and making travel even more safe and secure.

New digital signage on board the buses shares a wider range of real-time information, including the time to the next stop, disruptions, space on the next bus and service updates for Tube and Overground services.

The electric buses are powered by BYD Iron-Phosphate Battery technology providing a longer driving range and optimised battery life. They also benefit from BYD’s innovative chassis, incorporating a ‘6 in one controller’ integrating the entire ecosystem of the bus for improved reliability.

ADL is a subsidiary of leading independent global bus manufacturer NFI Group Inc, while BYD is the world’s leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles and power batteries.

Nikola duikt dieper in rode cijfers
Maker elektrische vrachtwagens boekt nog geen omzet.

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) Nikola is het afgelopen kwartaal dieper in de rode cijfers gedoken en boekte nog steeds geen omzet. Dit bleek donderdag uit de cijfers van de maker van elektrische vrachtwagens.

"In het vierde kwartaal zijn we begonnen met het leveren van pre-series TreBEV's aan klanten en dealers en we voeren de productie op", zei CEO Mark Russel. "We zijn sterk gefocust op het leveren van voertuigen en het genereren van inkomsten", voegde hij toe.

Nikola boekte het afgelopen kwartaal een nettoverlies van 159,4 miljoen dollar, in vergelijking met een verlies van 142,2 miljoen dollar in dezelfde periode een jaar eerder.

De aangepaste winst steeg van 0,17 dollar naar 0,23 dollar per aandeel.

Vooraf door FactSet geraadpleegde analisten rekenden op een verlies van 0,32 dollar per aandeel. De omzet werd geraamd op 2,3 miljoen dollar.

In heel 2021 leed Nikola een verlies van 690 miljoen dollar. Dat is flink meer dan het verlies van 371 miljoen dollar in 2020.

Outlook

Nikola verwacht dit jaar 300 tot 500 Tre BEV's te kunnen leveren aan klanten.

Het aandeel Nikola noteerde donderdag 7,5 procent lager.

Jacobs to Design Inductive Charging Project on a US Public Road

Jacobs is part of a consortium selected by the Michigan Department of Transportation to develop and implement an inductive vehicle charging pilot , the first of its kind in the United States. The project team will be led by Electreon, a leading provider of wireless charging solutions for electric vehicles. NextEnergy, a Detroit-based clean energy accelerator, will head up stakeholder and partner engagement. The pilot will also be supported by partners like Ford Motor Company and DTE Energy, a Detroit-based diversified energy company involved in the development and management of energy-related businesses and services, among others.

As the engineering partner, Jacobs will provide project management and design services to successfully deliver this pilot project through to operation. The consortium will design and build a one mile stretch of dynamic and stationary wireless EV charging technology in Detroit hosted by the Michigan Central mobility innovation district, which serves as an open platform for collaboration. The technology, developed by Electreon, will enable inductive charging by placing embedded coils under the road pavement along with semi-dynamic charging stations at end point terminals to charge the vehicles while stationary in a queuing or parking lane. The system supports charging of equipped EVs and addresses several shortcomings in electrification related to battery limitations, charging needs and vehicle asset utilization.

Het Dilemma | De elektrische zonneauto: standaard van de toekomst of gimmick?

Is iedere elektrische auto die over 20 jaar op de markt komt, uitgerust met zonnecellen? Solar Magazine legt dit dilemma voor aan hoogleraar Maarten Steinbuch: ‘De helft is ook al mooi.’

Maarten Steinbuch is hoogleraar Systeem- & Regeltechniek aan de Technische Universiteit Eindhoven. Onder zijn faculteit Werktuigbouwkunde valt ook het Automotive Lab. Dat richt zich onder andere op aandrijftechniek, autonoom rijden en het creëren van computermodellen voor het ondersteunen van ontwerpkeuzes aangaande de combinatie batterijen en motoren. Hij was lid van het Formule E-team dat in Nederland de uitrol van elektrische voertuigen aanjaagt, en is ambassadeur van fabrikant van zonneauto’s Lightyear. Als er een deskundige op het gebied van elektrische mobiliteit en laden nodig is, bijvoorbeeld voor een tv-programma of artikel, dan gaat bij hem al snel de telefoon over.

De toekomst van geïntegreerde zonnecellen, bijvoorbeeld in gebouwen en infrastructuur, is groot. Vooralsnog blijft het echter grotendeels bij een belofte. Hoe zit dat met voertuigen; is iedere elektrische auto die over 20 jaar op de markt komt, uitgerust met zonnecellen?
‘Ik denk niet iedere auto. Het is een mooie technologie, maar de winst in actieradius is beperkt. Zo’n systeem kan je hier in Nederland per jaar gemiddeld 12.000 extra kilometers opleveren, op een zonnige dag ergens tussen de 30 en 60 kilometer. Dat maakt het tot een zinvolle range extender, maar meer ook niet.’

Het zorgt wel voor duurzame energie in je batterijen. Bovendien, als je in grote getallen denkt, word het stroomnet ontlast door minder laden…
‘Bij heel veel laadpalen maak je via de provider gebruik van groene stroom. Bovendien is het in Nederland vaak eenvoudiger om gebruik te maken van de opwek van zonne-energie thuis. Ik raad iedereen die een elektrische auto koopt altijd aan ook zonnepanelen aan te schaffen, of er een paar bij te leggen. Wat betreft netbelasting; we gaan straks allemaal elektrisch rijden. Massaal gelijktijdig grote vermogens uit het stroomnet trekken is niet gewenst. Elektrische zonneauto’s kunnen net als andere elektrische auto’s middels smart charging een bijdrage leveren aan een betere netbelasting. Ook voor stationaire opslagsystemen zoals thuisbatterijen verwacht ik een belangrijke rol.’

We hebben het over marginale technologie?
‘Absoluut niet. De wereld is groot. Er zijn heel veel plekken waar de zon veel schijnt en de net- en laadinfrastructuur zeer beperkt is, bijvoorbeeld in het Midden-Oosten, Afrika en India. De elektrische zonneauto is daar naar mijn mening van zeer grote toegevoegde waarde. Massaal laadpalen uitrollen is heel duur, en je komt daar in principe verder met behulp van de zonnecellen op je auto. En bovendien creëer je lokale elektriciteitsproductie, zonder extra zonnepanelen te hoeven plaatsen. Dit zie ik dan ook als de grote markt voor een bedrijf zoals Lightyear.’

En Sono Motors uit Duitsland…
‘Dat is de andere partij die pioniert in deze technologie, in ieder geval wat betreft het ontwikkelen van een personenauto met een volledig geïntegreerd zonne-energiesysteem. Daarbij moeten kanttekeningen worden gemaakt. Wat Lightyear doet, is indrukwekkend. Het gaat allemaal over range, zo min mogelijk laden dus. De zonnecellen zijn daarvoor van belang, maar niet de doorslaggevende factor. De auto is licht, er wordt gebruikgemaakt van 2 of 4 elektromotoren in de wielen en de luchtweerstand is ongelofelijk laag… Dat draagt allemaal bij aan de totale efficiency. De Sion van Sono Motors is een heel ander verhaal, alleen al omdat het een vierkant bakkie wordt. Daar gaat mijn hart niet sneller van kloppen.’

De elektrische zonneauto wordt dus niet de standaard op de Nederlandse wegen, de grote automerken gaan er niet in investeren?

‘Dat is niet gezegd. Er zijn 2 factoren van belang voor de absolute doorbraak van de elektrische auto. De eerste is prijs. Het moet straks mogelijk zijn om er een voor 8.000 euro te kopen, zeg maar een Renault Twingo, die 400 kilometer per laadbeurt haalt. Wat betreft innovatie is batterijtechnologie leidend. Als de solid state batterij haar belofte waarmaakt en een auto daarmee 2 keer zo ver komt als nu, dan wordt de aanschaf een no-brainer. Maar alle betaalbare technologie die toegevoegde waarde heeft voor de range is kansrijk. Vergeet ook niet de emotionele waarde van zonnecellen op het autodak: het geeft een gevoel van autonomie en goed bezig zijn. Het zal dus hier wellicht niet de standaard worden, maar de helft is ook al mooi.’

Iberdrola Ultra-Fast EV Charging Hub in Southern Europe

Iberdrola has inaugurated the largest ultra-fast charging hub for electric vehicles that currently exists in southern Europe. Located in a strategic location on the A-70 motorway, in the municipality of Elche, the facility consists of two charging stations -one in each direction of the motorway- and will have a total nominal power of four megawatts. The infrastructure, carried out in cooperation with Porsche, comprises a total of four 400 kW chargers and 12 200 kW chargers, which can charge up to 16 vehicles simultaneously and recharge an electric car battery in less than five minutes.

Iberdrola, a world leader in renewable energies, has partnered with Porsche, a leader in technology and innovation, to install a total of 35 ultra-fast charging stations in Spain with the most powerful chargers on the market. This collaboration also includes the installation of 15 innovative charging points at strategic nodes, with more than 300 kW of power per unit, associated with battery storage systems that increase the efficiency of the facilities.

In addition to this alliance, the company continues with its electric mobility expansion plan, which will allow it to install ultra-fast charging stations in strategic areas throughout the country in the coming years, as well as continuing with the deployment of lower power facilities. These ultra-fast charging hubs join Iberdrola's network of charging infrastructure, which already has more than 2,500 public charging points in operation nationwide.

Vattenfall InCharge to Set Up 4000 EV Charger in Netherland

Vattenfall InCharge, together with partners, will install a minimum of 4,000 charging points during three years in 67 municipalities in the Dutch provinces Gelderland and Overijssel. Placement is largely proactive, before the need arises, and based on an algorithm. Vattenfall InCharge places the proactive charging points based on a predictive algorithm. In addition, Vattenfall InCharge will also provide charging solutions on request and on the basis of usage data. If an electric car driver does not have the possibility to charge close by, it is possible to request a charging point nearby if no, or only a very busy charging station, is present.

The InCharge network was introduced in 2016 by Vattenfall. It has today more than 30 000 connected charging points in northern Europe and provides drivers of electric cars with access to many more charge points through roaming agreements. With this new agreement, with the provinces of Gelderland and Overijssel, the installation work is planned more efficiently and the possibility to drive electric carelessly will increase significantly in the Netherlands.

The proactive placement of charging points is based on a model from Royal Haskoning DHV, an international engineering consultancy firm. This model determines the load requirement in an area with a radius of 250 meters via an algorithm.

Vattenfall is also installing a total of 8,000 charging points in the two provinces North Brabant and Limburg.

GZM Metropolis to Buy 32 Solaris Electric Buses

Signing of a contract for the delivery of 32 new Solaris e-buses has taken place. Along with the vehicles, the manufacturer will provide the requisite charging infrastructure. The commissioned 12- and 18-metre Urbino electric buses will make their way to carriers from the cities of Gliwice, Katowice, Sosnowiec, and Swierklaniec in 2023.

Solaris Urbino electric buses make a real and lasting contribution to improving the quality of life in towns and cities. The vehicles stand out due to their quietness and lack of local emissions. Following worldwide trends, GZM Metropolis (an association of municipalities in the Silesia region) has opted for Solaris e-buses along with charging infrastructure, i.e. 11 pantograph chargers and 16 plug-in chargers. In line with the contract signed, the GZM Metropolis will welcome 27 Urbino 12 electric and 5 articulated Urbino 18 electric vehicles in 2023. Apart from providing charging devices, the manufacturer has also committed to carrying out a full package of turnkey e-mobility solutions comprising designing work, securing a permit for land development, project supervision on behalf of the investor and setting up the necessary charging infrastructure.

The vehicles to be delivered to GZM Metropolis will be powered by Solaris High Energy batteries with a total capacity of 250 kWh in the Urbino 12 electric buses and of 400 kWh in the case of the Urbino 18 electric units. They will be recharged both by means of a pantograph and plug-in technology. The drive in both vehicle types will consist of traction motors integrated with a drive axle.

Thanks to air-conditioning, which will maintain a constant pre-programmed temperature in the passenger compartment, passengers will enjoy a comfortable ride regardless of the weather conditions outside. The Urbino 12 interiors will fit at least 80 people and the Urbino 18 electric buses will have room for at least 115 passengers. A spacious area for the simultaneous transport of a wheelchair and a pram/pushchair or a bike has also been envisaged. To top it all, the buses will also be equipped with illuminated USB charging ports for mobile devices.

An even safer journey will be ensured by a data recording system for bus and driver performance as well as a driver alcohol detection system. The ordered buses will also be fitted with an automatic fire extinguishing system. They will also feature a passenger counting system and an enclosed driver cabin to separate the driver from passengers, a very useful solution in the midst of a pandemic. As standard, there will be a CCTV system on board to monitor the passenger compartment as well as the road around the bus.

Volvo Secures 82 Electric Bus Order from Finland

A total of 82 Volvo 7900 Electric buses will be delivered to three locations in Finland. 61 of the buses are destined for Helsinki and represent the largest-ever order for Volvo Buses in Finland. Two further orders include 13 electric buses for Joensuu and eight for the city of Savonlinna in the east of the country. In Helsinki, 19 of the Volvo 7900 Electric buses will be articulated. All the buses will have a low floor for safe and easy passenger access. Other benefits, including a quiet and smooth driving experience, have also been pointed out by customers. The articulated buses will be charged in the end stop of the route with a pantograph while the other 42 buses will use overnight charging in depot. The buses for Joensuu will start operating in the summer, while those being delivered to Helsinki will start in traffic this autumn.

One of the determining factors for choosing Volvo Buses as a partner in Finland was its focus on safety and reliability, as well as its long-term experience in implementing electric public transport solutions.

The city of Savonlinna is one of the first in Finland to demand full electric buses. The delivery of eight Volvo 7900 Electric for traffic start in early 2023 will be the city’s first electric buses.

ZAANSTAD - Auto’s zullen door de transitie naar elektrisch rijden fors duurder worden. Het ligt aan de overheden in hoeverre een auto ook voor iedereen betaalbaar wordt. „Ook wij zullen onze prijzen verhogen. De mate van vrijheid van mobiliteit is in handen van de politiek.”

Dat zei topman Carlos Tavares van autobouwer Stellantis dinsdag tijdens zijn presentatie van de langetermijnstrategie van de statutair in Nederland gevestigde onderneming. Dit eerste strategisch plan van het onlangs ontstane fusiebedrijf van Peugeot Citroën- (PSA) en Fiat Chrysler (FCA) werd uit de doeken gedaan op het Hembrugterrein in Zaanstad, een stuk industrieel erfgoed langs het Noordzeekanaal.

Door de enorme investeringen die de autobouwers moeten doen in elektrificatie en digitalisering ontkomen autobouwers er volgens Tavares niet aan om de prijzen van nieuwe auto’s op te schroeven. „Ook wij zullen de prijzen verhogen. Hoeveel? Dat weet ik niet, dat hangt onder meer af van de ontwikkeling van de grondstofkosten. Maar wij doen ons best om de auto voor zoveel mogelijk mensen betaalbaar te houden.”

Keuzes
Of automobiliteit daadwerkelijk bereikbaar blijft voor zoveel mensen, hangt volgens de Portugese topman van ’s werelds derde grote autofabrikant vooral af van politieke keuzes. „Europese landen halen jaarlijks zo’n €150 miljard op aan belastinginkomsten uit autorijden, onder meer op brandstof. Wat er dadelijk gebeurt bij de overgang naar elektrisch ligt aan de politiek.”

Autobouwers steken miljarden in ’jacht op de batterij’

Tavares, die als topman van PSA het bedrijf in 2014 van de ondergang heeft gered, zit nu als eerste ceo van Stellantis ook boordevol ambitie. Zo moet de omzet in 2030 uitkomen om €300 miljard, een verdubbeling ten opzichte van de €152 miljard in het eerste fusiejaar 2021. En afgelopen jaar was de omzet al 14% hoger dan de gezamenlijke omzet in het jaar voor de fusie.

Een kwart van de omzet zal in 2030 van buiten de thuismarkten West-Europa en de Verenigde Staten moeten komen. Waar Tavares een paar maanden geleden nog stellig zei dat Opel Rusland moet veroveren, is hij wat dat betreft nu terughoudender. Stellantis heeft een bestelbusjes-fabriek in Kaloega, zo’n 200 kilometer ten zuidwesten van Moskou. „Wij veroordelen al het geweld en commiteren ons aan de regels”, zegt Tavares. „Als er sancties zijn, houden we ons eraan. Nu merken we de situatie vooral in de aanvoer van materialen.”

Winstgevendheid
Daarnaast moet de winstgevendheid fors omhoog door onder meer de komende acht jaar 40% te snijden in de productie van elektrische auto’s en transformatie- en distributiekosten. Stellantis wil over twee jaar €5 miljard besparingen gaan halen op synergiekosten. Die verdiensten uit de samensmelting van FCA en PSA lagen overigens afgelopen jaar reeds op €3,2 miljard. Die nieuwe besparingen worden onder meer bereikt door productielijnen nog verder te integreren.

De kritiek van analisten dat Stellantis met veertien merken, waaronder naast de hoofdmerken ook onder meer Opel, Jeep, Dodge, Alfa Romeo en Maserati, te veel merken voert, werpt Tavares ver van zich. „Sommigen zeggen dat wij te veel merken hebben, maar wij zeggen dat we voor elke consument een auto maken.”

In plaats van snijden in het portfolio, lanceert Stellantis tussen 2022 en 2030 honderd nieuwe modellen. In Europa is dan alles batterij-aangedreven. In de Verenigde Staten moet in 2038 elke nieuwe auto een stekkerauto zijn en dan wil Stellantis ook de hele productie CO2-neutraal hebben.

Het concern investeert komende drie jaar €30 miljard in de hele transitie. Een groot deel daarvan gaat naar de bouw van batterijfabrieken. Het bedrijf wil in 2030 vijf gigafabrieken gerealiseerd hebben, verdeeld over Europa en de Verenigde Staten. Stellantis heeft daarvoor een samenwerkingsovereenkomst met Samsung, LG en ACC.

Na Tesla gooit ook Ionity zijn snellaadpunten in buurlanden van Oekraïne gratis open voor iedereen. Alle laadstations in Polen, Slowakije en Hongarije zijn tijdelijk gratis te gebruiken.

De actie van Ionity loopt in ieder geval gedurende de hele maand maart. Daarmee volgt Ionity Tesla, dat eergisteren al zijn superchargers in geselecteerde gebieden in Polen, Slowakije en Hongarije gratis open stelde. In tegenstelling tot Tesla zijn alle snelladers van Ionity in die landen gratis te gebruiken. Ionity wil daarmee niet alleen vluchtelingen uit Oekraïne steunen, maar ook de mensen in de omringende landen die hen helpen. Heel veel snelladers zijn er overigens nog niet in de regio. In het westen van Polen heeft Ionity zeven snellaadstations, in Slowakije staat er eentje bij Bratislava en in Hongarije staan er vier in de regio rondom Boedapest.

Het is de eerste keer dat Ionity, eigendom van onder meer BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Ford en de Volkswagen Group, zo'n actie opzet. Tesla deed dat eerder al bij de overstromingen in Duitsland, België en Limburg. Ionity is momenteel ook een stuk minder groot dan het Supercharger-netwerk van Tesla, maar daarin moet verandering komen. Rond 2025 wil de laadexploitant zo'n 7.000 snelladers hebben. Momenteel heeft Ionity 407 locaties met in totaal 1.641 snelladers.

BYD ADL to Supply 130 Electric Double Deckers for Zenobe & NEC

Alexander Dennis Limited & BYD UK announced that their electric vehicle partnership, the UK’s leading electric bus producer, will supply over 130 zero emission double deck buses to EV fleet and battery storage specialist Zenobe and bus operator National Express, and support these vehicles with spare parts over a period of 16 years. The buses will help to make Coventry the UK’s first all-electric bus city. The deal will see over 130 BYD ADL Enviro400EV double deck electric buses, all manufactured in Britain by ADL in partnership with BYD, enter service in Coventry from early 2023 as a part of the city’s successful bid to become the country’s first all-electric bus city and take it a huge step closer to replacing around 300 diesel vehicles by 2025.

Zenobe will be providing Electric Transportation as a Service, ETaaS, to National Express, financing and managing the full turnkey solution that includes new BYD ADL vehicles, on-board battery replacement, charging and grid infrastructure, a second life battery system at the depot, unique software to optimise charging, parts, and full operational support.

As part of the agreement, ADL will supply Zenobe and National Express with spare parts for planned preventive maintenance (PPM) over a period of 16 years from acceptance of the vehicles.

ADL is a subsidiary of leading independent global bus manufacturer NFI Group Inc, while BYD is the world’s leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles & power batteries.

ÖBB Postbus Signs Pact for Zero-Emission Solaris Buses

Solaris Bus & Coach sp zoo has signed another framework agreement with the Austrian bus company Österreichische Postbus AG. It stipulates a possibility to deliver up to 106 battery-electric and hydrogen buses that would be deployed throughout Austria. The models offered include Urbino 9 LE electric and Urbino 12 hydrogen buses. The agreement envisages deliveries in the years 2022-2025.

In February this year, Solaris and Österreichische Postbus AG, the largest bus company in Austria and a leader in regional public bus transport, concluded a framework agreement for the delivery of up to 106 state-of-the-art and environmentally friendly buses. Possible orders are to be fulfilled in the years 2022-2025 with an option to prolong this period until 2028. Buses to be purchased by the client include up to 24 of the latest, zero-emission Urbino 9 LE electric buses, and up to 82 Urbino 12 hydrogen buses.

The Solaris hydrogen buses offered under the agreement are the most innovative vehicles in the manufacturer’s range. Thanks to their extremely quiet operation and no local emissions, the buses have become increasingly popular among European carriers. The framework agreement is yet another agreement for hydrogen buses concluded between Österreichische Postbus AG und Solaris. The previous contract signed in February 2021 assumed, among other things, the delivery of up to 40 Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen buses.

The energy that powers the hydrogen buses is generated by 70 kW fuel cells. Electricity, produced via reverse electrolysis, is transferred directly to the driveline, consisting of an axle with electric motors. The sole by-products generated during this process are heat and steam. The hydrogen needed to propel the bus will be stored in gaseous form in five tanks with a total volume of 1560 litres, mounted on the bus’s roof. Additionally, every ordered vehicle will be equipped with a Solaris High Power battery.

The contract also provides for the possibility to purchase Urbino 9 LE electric buses, the youngest member of the electric Solaris family, which was launched in September 2021. This versatile model has been designed in such a way that it can be adapted for class I or class II type approval. Thus, the bus provides an excellent link between the urban and suburban road networks. Thanks to its compact dimensions, the vehicle will perform excellently on steep climbs and on tight mountain bends in Austria. These 9-metre buses will be equipped with a central electric motor. The propulsion system will be powered by energy derived from a set of Solaris High Energy batteries with a total capacity of about 280 kWh, and the spacious interior will take at least 65 passengers. The modernised design in the rear of the bus provides more headroom, which will enhance the quality of the journey.

Scania Electric Trucks for Copenhagen Municipal Waste Company ARC

Scania will supply at least 78 fully electric L-series trucks, with an additional 23 trucks as optional, to Amager Resource Center for urban waste handling in the Copenhagen region. The first two trucks were already delivered in December 2021. The fleet of electric trucks, producing zero tailpipe emissions, will contribute to improved air quality and reduced noise for residents of the Danish capital region. The low-entry L-series cabs, most also featuring the Scania City Door, will improve the working conditions for drivers and crews with their ergonomics and driver comfort, optimised for urban transport operations that include frequent stops.

The order includes at least 72 refuse collector trucks (with an additional 19 as optional), six box-body trucks (with an additional four as optional), as well as one hooklift truck (with a second as optional), and includes repair and maintenance contracts for 8-10 years.

The first two fully electric L-series trucks were delivered in December 2021, and the rest of the fleet will be delivered throughout 2022 and into the first half of 2023.

Decarbonising waste management and recycling is an important part of Copenhagen’s ambitious goal to become the world’s first carbon-neutral capital city by 2025. ARC’s iconic Amager Bakke waste energy plant, with its rooftop ski slope and recreation area, is a symbol of the city’s sustainable ambitions and ARC aims for it to become the world’s first carbon-neutral waste energy plant.

In Europa moeten we minder afhankelijk worden van olie en gas. De oorlog in Ukraine maakt dit zeer urgent en daarom is de bouw van EV batterijfabrieken in Europa zo belangrijk naar de transitie van elektrische auto's. Het duurt ongeveer 2 jaar voordat een EV batterijfabriek operationeel wordt. De Tesla giga EV batterijfabriek van €5 miljard bij Berlijn is pas eind dit jaar operationeel.

Northvolt to Turn Closed Paper Mill in Sweden into Gigafactory

Northvolt and Stora Enso have announced the signing of a letter of intent on a purchase of the Kvarnsveden Mill and the surrounding industrial area in Borlänge in Sweden. Northvolt will develop the site into a manufacturing plant for active material and battery cells, reusing and refurbishing much of the existing facilities and site infrastructure. The gigafactory is expected to start the first part of its operations in late 2024 and will employ up to 1,000 people, utilizing 100 percent clean energy from the region. Fully built out, the site will have a potential annual production capacity of more than 100 GWh of cathode material, which will enable cell assembly at multiple Northvolt facilities. The site will also feature cell production.

Founded in 1900, the mill produced pulp and paper for over 120 years until its closure in 2021, laying off over 400 people. The agreement is the result of a strong commitment by Stora Enso to find the best long-term solution for its former employees and the city of Borlänge. Key managers from the Kvarnsveden site will stay on during a transfer period to best utilize the current infrastructure and enable a swift transformation.

The project advances Northvolt on its mission to deliver the world’s greenest lithium-ion battery and establish a sustainable supply of batteries to enable the decarbonization of society. The factory will play a key role in fulfilling more than USD 50 billion in orders from key customers and joins a wider European production network of facilities being developed together with partners in Sweden, Norway, Poland, Germany and Portugal.

Panasonic EV Lithium-Ion Batteries Plant at Wakayama Factory

Panasonic Corporation announced that its Energy Company will establish a production facility at its Wakayama Factory in western Japan to manufacture new, “4680” lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles in order to expand its business globally.

To contribute to the rapid adoption of EVs, Panasonic has been working to enhance its line-up of automotive lithium-ion batteries. Currently, Panasonic is developing a new high-capacity lithium-ion battery, the “4680”, in multiple locations within Japan. The company will progressively develop production capabilities in preparation for the full rollout. Along with structural improvements, two additional production lines as well as utility facilities will be established at the Wakayama Factory, and productivity verification and mass production are set to begin in the fiscal year ending in March 2024.

Through its energy business, Panasonic will contribute to realizing a society in which the pursuit of happiness and a sustainable environment are harmonized free of conflict.
